About the Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival The Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival is an annual event hosted by different colleges and universities throughout the region. It was established in 1991 to foster camaraderie and pedagogical exchanges between classical guitar teachers and students; to provide performance and learning opportunities for student ensembles; and to contribute to the overall artistic and cultural enrichment of classical guitar ensemble audiences. MAGEF has worked to increase the depth and breadth of ensemble repertoire by commissioning pieces for the festival orchestra. The first festival was hosted by Millikin University in Decatur, IL, and since has been sponsored by schools in Illinois, Missouri, Michigan, and Indiana. Guest artists have included such renowned groups as the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, the Assad Duo, the Australian Guitar Duo, Los Romeros, and Duo Melis.
From Your Hosts:
On behalf of Lincoln-Way Central High School, we would like to invite you to attend the 2018 Mid-America Guitar Ensemble Festival.
This year’s featured guest performing ensemble is Belgium's Four Aces Guitar Quartet. Performances by participating ensembles, as well as a performance by the 2018 MAGEF Guitar Orchestra, will complete the weekend's musical offerings.
The 2018 MAGEF Guitar Orchestra will debut Tirandosaurus by Jürg Kindle, commissioned for the festival by the Lincoln-Way Central Music Boosters. We are so very grateful for the support and enthusiasm of our parent organization to make this composition possible!
This year’s MAGEF again will be a truly wonderful and memorable event. The weekend will consist of performances by participating guitar ensembles, master classes, and a concert by this year’s guest artists, The Four Aces Guitar Quartet.
